Summer Learning Journey Week 2 Day 2

Day 2: Taking Action

Activity 1: A long walk to freedom
In the prison I was treated poorly I had less food then what I normally had, we always had to eat chicken and soup. Every morning we have to get up and exercise until we were told to stop and have lunch late, sometimes we didn't have lunch at all instead we had to work all day. I had to be next to people that were so mean you could run away crying. Every day there was always someone that nearly escaped but they would always get caught.

Activity 2: School Strike For Climate
Things I have learned

  • Lots of children in Australia care for the environment
  • I learned that in Australia this was all happening
  • I learned kids are striking about Climate Change

We get our milk straight from a cow in a milk billy instead of going to the supermarket and having it in a plastic container.

Activity 3: I Have a Dream
Rosa Parks was a black women. In buses the white people sat in the front while black people sat in the back. One day Rosa Parks was sitting in one of the black seats until the bus driver said to her to move so a white person could sit there Rosa Parks thought about it then she said No then Rosa Parks got arrested. This made lots of people angry and many people refused to go on buses. The bus drivers were driving around with not many people in them. Because of this eventually the law was changed so it was fair.

  1. Kia ora Johanna,

It’s Leisha here from the Summer Learning Journey. I hope you are having a fantastic Friday!

Ka mau te pai for completing all three activities for day 2, week 2! What activity was your favourite one out of these three?
You have done a great job at describing things that Mr Mandela would have been feeling and doing in prison. What emotions or feelings do you think he would have felt when he was finally released from prison? I think he would have felt excited.

I am glad you have learned some facts about climate change and what the School Strike 4 Climate is all about. Do you agree that it is important for us all to do our bit to care for the environment? I lived on a farm as a child and we used to get our milk straight from the vat at the cow shed too. I remember it used to make the best creamiest milk shakes!! :)

You have described the story that Rosa Parks experienced really well. It is great that you have mentioned how angry this made people too. It definitely caused a lot of people to think and act differently afterwards and was one of the key events that created an impact and towards the law change.

I enjoyed reading this post. Keep up the great work!

  2. Hi Leisha

Yes I do agree that we should do our bit to help the environment.

    1. Hi Johanna,

      You are very welcome :)

Mixed emotions of happy and annoyed could be very accurate. I would imagine time in prison and the idea of returning to the outside world would leave you feeling a bit confused about how to feel. I like that you have thought about how he would feel. Putting yourself in his shoes and feeling from his perspective. Well done.

I hope you are enjoying your holidays so far!
