Day 5: The sky's a limit!

Activity 1: Environment Day - Beat Plastic Pollution

Three things of how to save the planet

  1.  Stop using plastic that can get into the sea and kill the fish.
  2.  Stop leaving rubbish everywhere.
  3.  Don't use plastic straws
Activity 2:  Adoption Day

Three animals I would like to adopt
  1. Snowy owl
  2. Arctic Hare
  3. Cheetah
Similar: They are all very soft and fluffy. Different: The Snowy Owl can fly. The Arctic Hare can jump around and Cheetah's are very fast.

Activity 3: Concluding The Journey

I didn't know that the earth was having problems

The one thing that surprised me was how big the Tāne Mahuta is.

The one thing that upset me was how some country's have smog all over the Place and some people couldn't breath.

I would pick up rubbish and planting trees.

  2. Hi Johanna

Congratulations on completing the Summer Learning Journey again this summer. You have done a fantastic job finishing all 60 of the activities.
Evelyn and I are both so proud of you and all the time and effort that you have put into your post. I hope that you are proud of yourself as this is quite the achievement.

I hope that you have enjoyed participating in the programme and that you have learnt something about the environment along the way. I hope that one day you will get to see Tane Mahuta as he truly is an amazing tree ( God of the Forest ) to see in person.

I am looking forward to seeing you when I return to Kumara School in February with certificates and prizes. Enjoy the last few days of the holidays and I wish you all the best for the new school year.

Once again well done Johanna we are all very proud of you!

    See you soon

    Allie :)

  3. Good afternoon Johanna,

My name is Georgia and I am the Cluster Manager for the Kaikohekohe (Northland) tamariki involved in the Summer Learning Journey. Allie has just shared the exciting news that you have completed all 60 activities! What an incredible achievement, ka pai.

Hopefully you enjoyed the environmental theme of the programme this year and learnt some helpful things about what we can do as humans to try and help protect the future of our environment.

I also hope you have had a wonderful summer! Be proud of your achievements with the SLJ, you are awesome and I am positive you will be going back to school, excited and ready to learn.

  4. Hi there Johanna,

I have enjoyed reading through your wonderful blog posts and I have had an absolute blast on this journey with you! Allie is absolutely correct, I have indeed enjoyed following you along on this journey and I want to thank you for sharing your experiences and knowledge with all of us. I will definitely miss reading all your wonderful blog posts! A big, big congratulations to you on making it to the end and completing all the activities to a high standard, I hope you have had an amazing time and learnt many new things on this wonderful journey!

The Snowy owl, Artic hare and the Cheetah are such unique and interesting animals, aren't they? It would be such a breathtaking experience to be able to fly like the owl, jump like the hare, and run like the cheetah. They sure have some amazing talents!

We all have a role on this planet and we can definitely play our part to make this place a little bit better each day. Avoiding the use of plastic as best as we can and picking up rubbish when we see it is an excellent start and a very good suggestion, well done!

May you enjoy the rest of your holidays and have a lovely year of school ahead!

I wish you all the very best,
    Evelynn :)

  5. Hello Johanna,
Well done for successfully completing the Summer Learning Journey on the last day! I never knew that this would really happen, but it is going to officially end at midnight! Also well done for doing a great job completing the last activities.

My favourite thing you would do to beat plastic pollution is to stop using plastic straws, because I never use them, but I know that a lot of people use them to drink and always throw them away after, which is bad for the landfill. I like how you are going to adopt the snowy owl because it is a very unique animal.

    Happy Blogging

  6. Kia Ora Johanna,

Congratulations on successfully completing the Summer Learning Journey for 2018-2019. It is a huge accomplishment and one that, I hope, you are very proud of! We are certainly very proud of you for working so hard all summer to finish the journey. There is a lot of work involved in the programme (as you know!) so it is always a very exciting moment when we see another student make it across the finish line.

Allie, Hasiba, Evelyn and I (along with the rest of the SLJ team) really want to wish you well this year at school. We hope that you will be able to share some of your great learning with your teachers and your friends when Kumara School goes back in early February.

    Have a wonderful year ahead!

    Warmest regards,
    Rachel :)
