week 4 day 2

Activity 1
Three things about Richie McCaw:
  • I did not know that he flies helicopters
  • I did not know that he was a leader of the New Zealand all Blacks Rugby team
  • I did not know that Richie McCaw is 37 years old
Does Richie McCaw have kids is what I would like to know?

Activity 2
I don’t have a sporting hero. But Holly Robinson came to my athletics.

This is Holly, She is a para athlete. She has lost part of her arm.
She throws a javelin. She got a silver at Rio 2016 paralympic games.

Bonus activity

In which country did it originate? Dominican Republic
Who originally created it? There are two popular versions of the dance. One story alleges the dance
originated with slaves who were chained together and, of necessity, were forced to drag one leg as
they cut sugar to the beat of drums.
The second story alleges that a great hero was wounded in the leg during one of the many
revolutions in the Dominican Republic. A party of villagers welcomed him home with a victory
celebration and, out of sympathy, everyone dancing felt obliged to limp and drag one foot.

Three facts:

  • It is a combination of two dances, the african and the french minuet, from the 1700’s - early 1800’s.
  • The black slaves saw the ballroom dances in the Big Houses and when they had their own festivities started mimicking the “masters’ dances”.
  • There was no blatant movement of the hips like there is today, as native African dances do not move the hips.

  1. Mōrena Johanna,

Another awesome blog post, well done!

I see that you've managed to squeeze all of Week 4, Day 2 in to one convenient blog post— nice work.

Activity 1: A Decade of Sport.
Thanks very much for finding out 3 facts that you didn't know about Richie McCaw. I had no idea that he flew helicopters, wow, a man of many talents! I must say he's looking pretty good for his age. I did know that he was the captain of the All Blacks. In fact he was an extremely good captain, and set such a great standard for his teammates!
I've just read a little interview that Richie had, and it sounds as though he doesn't have any children, however that could still be a possibility for him in the future.
    Do you play any sports?

    Activity 2: Sporting Heroes.
Thanks very much for telling us about Holly Robinson coming to your athletics; I see that you don't have a "sporting hero" which is totally fine, neither do I, but maybe you could tell us a little bit more about Holly Robinson?
What does she look like? Maybe you could edit this post and add a photo of her.
If you can do this, then I'll be able to reward you with full points!

    Bonus Activity: Shake it Off.
Wow, thanks Johanna for telling us so much about the Merengue dance. I appreciate that you've put up a link to the dance, that is a really thoughtful thing to do for your viewers.
Do you like to dance? If so, could you see yourself attempting this dance?
Maybe next time you could make sure that the words fit in to the blog post, I'm just having a little bit of trouble reading all of your fantastic information is all!

Keep up the great mahi, and I'll be monitoring this blog post to check in for when you give me more information about Holly Robinson :)

    Cheers,

    Jordan.
